Scott Brills, current president of the West Bloomfield club, is preparing for a redux of his 2009 Mongol Rally adventure as he and five others set off from the U.K. to Cape Town this summer. The trip will take them 13,000 miles through 26 countries on their way to South Africa.

The team is decorating their two Subaru Forester vehicles as sneakers through a combination of canvas and paint work (which is where the name Shoebaru came from). Their goal this time around is to raise $30,000 to build and outfit a school at a U.S.-run orphanage in southern Ethiopia. Along the way they will be visiting a number of orphanages, charitable organizations, and Rotary clubs to spread the word, interact with the locals, and pass out clothing supplies to those in need.

The launch is set for July 14th and the trip is expected to take around 3 months to complete. For more information please visit the team web site at http://www.shoebaru.com . Be sure to also 'Like' the team Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/Shoebaru to stay up-to-date on their progress throughout the trip.

PS: All members of 6380 and their family/friends are invited to meet up with Scott Brills and teammate Mallory Brown (who has done a number of Rotary presentations herself) at Shoebaru's send-off BYOB BBQ event next Sunday, June 24th from noon on at Hostel Detroit (2700 Vermont Street, Detroit).
