October is Economic and Community Development Month
Nearly 1.4 billion employed people live on less than $1.25 a day. We carry out service projects that enhance economic and community development and develop opportunities for decent and productive work for young and old. We also help strengthen local entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women in impoverished communities. Check out “Growing Local Economies”
“Growing Rotary’s Economies” are nurtured with more people to help spawn new projects and fundraising ideas. The words Action and Thrive are synonymous with the need for more people to connect to a Rotary Service experience. Attracting new members and keeping existing ones requires getting your ASK in GEAR. If you never ask what they want, how are you going to give it to them?
Instead of “Selling Rotary” we might consider ASKing people to come along on a service project. We might ASK someone, “what does service look like to you?”. How about ASKing a member about their passion which might serve as a project idea.
Have you ever heard “I don’t like… (fill in the blank). If we don’t like something about other people, maybe we should look for what we can like about them. Are they active in their community, do they like to volunteer, are they upbeat and positive? Those traits are inner traits, not how we look, how we associate with others or any number of external “looks”.
Let’s try CHANGE and see what HAPPENS!
C – Courage to Take Action
H – Hearing Others Wisdom
A – Attitude is Everything
N – New Ideas are Worth Trying
G – Get Your ASK in Gear
E – Explore the Possibilities
World Polio Day is October 24. Whether it’s Pennies for Polio, Pizza for Polio or Tailgating for Polio, we are in the red zone with the goal in sight. We cannot stop now. Register and promote your event on If you have not planned one yet, visit www.endpolio.org for ideas.
Please join us for our 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, October 13. This event will take place during the Founders Day celebration, hosted by the Hartland Historical Society. Proceeds will benefit the Florence B. Dearing Museum (for its 60th birthday!) and Rotary’s Global Polio Eradication Initiative. For more information, go to: www.hartlandrotary.org
On October 28, our Rotarians will be helping out with the annual dance project Masquerade Ball. The Dance Project was founded in order to help schools create a safe, fun and positive environment at their dances.
The Ridgetown Rotary Club's first fall meeting took place on September 10. To honour Hugh McVittie for his 56 years of service to Ridgetown Rotary and the community at large, almost 40 gathered in the Anglican Church Hall for this special meeting.
The Bicycle Safety Helmet program is in conjunction with the Sterling Heights Police Department.
Our club custom-fitted and distributed bike helmets to over 300 children at no charge. The event was held in conjunction with the community's annual “National Night Out” in August.
Thank you Linda May for doing the Newsletter for so many years! We are grateful for your service and dedication over the years. Job well done!
As Jane and I have visited 6380's Clubs, we've been asked to compact the Bulletin with links to the full stories. This is the first one responding to what your Clubs have asked for. Eric Tindall (webmaster Ann Arbor North) and myself have been working to learn how to present this new format.
We have an ASK for you. When submitting a story to be included in the Bulletin, please include 1-Impactful photo (.jpg or .png), 1-Impactful paragraph describing the event and the full story with all the photos you want. Some stories come to us as a .pdf or .jpg. Most of the time, embedded links do not work when the story is posted. Please have links in text rather than embedded in a picture.
Please feel free to include links to Rotary content, your videos, your photos and videos that pertain to your content. We would also ASK you to post club activities on the the District 6380 Facebook page so when they are viewed by Rotarians they can be shared, giving you a bigger audience.
The other ASK from Clubs has been to keep them better informed of what is happening in your District. To act on that ASK, we will be sending out a second Bulletin (mid-month) with information from one or more committees, Assistant Governors, great ideas from clubs. We encourage you to comment at media@rd6380.org.
Please feel free to submit entries at any time with the cutoff date of the 25th of each month. Send to media@rd6380.org.
We appreciate all you do to make our world a better place!
