The month of October is Community and Economic Development Month in Rotary. Attention this month focuses on Polio and its eradication.
We celebrate World Polio Day on Saturday October 24.
Many of our clubs are completing their plans for Polio Plus fundraisers which include purple donuts in Canada, pizza for polio, purple pinkie painting, and putt for polio, just to name a few. The goal of these club fund raisers is to make some money to be given to Polio Plus eradication. This week there are 35 cases of wild polio in Afghanistan and 4 in Pakistan. Eradication efforts still continue.
The District Foundation Committee is accelerating its planning of our Thursday, November 5 Foundation Gala. We have 21 clubs this year that will be recognized for significant contributions to TRF. These contributions come from donations to polio plus, EREY, and per capita annual fund giving.
We will also be celebrating our District 6380 Rotarians that have become Paul Harris Fellows, Polio Plus Society Members, Paul Harris Society Members, Major Donors moving up and Arch Klump Society Members.
Our District Foundation Gala will be in Sterling Heights on Thursday, November 5, 2026 at the Century Banquet Center, American Polish Center, 33204 Maple Lane Road off 14 Mile Road. The celebration will start at 5:30-9:30 pm with Dinner and Open Bar.
Our Keynote Speaker is Michael McGovern, RI Polio Plus Committee Chair. We also are honored to have Shannon Carter, Clarkston Rotarian, speak on her life and times as a Rotary Ambassadorial Peace Scholar. Tyler Stokesbary, RI Regional Major Gifts Officer will also be on hand.
Get your members together and sponsor a table or choose from several other sponsor opportunities. On Sunday, October 4 at Midnight the Early Bird pricing will end and our registration will go from $65 to $75. I look forward to greeting you at our 2026 District Foundation Gala.
Don't forget to nominate a club member to become District 6380 Governor in 2029-2030. Nominations are due Thursday, November 29, 2026.
